Complete payment in 0.3 seconds: Amazon is testing "swipe payment" with an error rate of one millionth

January 17,2020

At present, the more convenient payment methods include mobile phone code scanning, face payment and so on. How much scan code payment requires some tedious operations, while face payment is simple, but because face recognition involves personal privacy, not everyone can accept this payment method. So a new payment method came, that is, "swipe payment".

Late last month, the US Patent and Trademark Office announced Amazon's patent application for this biometric technology. According to the description of the application document, this is a non-contact scanning system that can identify the user by scanning palm features (including palm prints and veins). \

According to Amazon's idea, the scanner can be placed at a fixed position on the entrance and exit, and the palm of the scan can be linked to a customer's credit or debit card payment account, and a wave can complete the transaction.

Amazon is working to let customers associate credit card information with the palm of their hands to enable "swipe payment" at the checkout in the physical store. To advance this plan, Amazon has conducted terminal testing with Visa and has discussed the feasibility of the project with MasterCard, JP Morgan Chase, and Wells Fargo.

According to the current feedback, the payment error rate of hand brush is within one millionth, and it may reach one hundred millionth in the future. The entire scanning and payment process takes 300 milliseconds (0.3 seconds), which is much more convenient than traditional code scanning and payment.

From the perspective of privacy and security, compared with the previously controversial "face payment", "swiping payment" is less threatening, and more easily accepted by consumers, and of course it is easier to spread.
